My language arts/literacy instruction takes the form of a Readerʻs Workshop. This means that students are explicitly taught strategies to become more skillful at comprehending the complexity of both fiction and non-fiction text. Students will be engaged in authentic reading experiences that address their interests, strengths and needs.
As I implement intentional mini-lessons, model/demonstrate thinking, and structure guided practice, students will subsequently apply/practice critical reading through the use of close/active comprehension strategies. Our Readerʻs Workshop approach will provide a supportive and responsive learning environment that helps to develop proficient readers.
