Thank you for a great and educational year. I learned alot this year you made it easy for us to do and check our assignments because of the website I can’t wait to see what you will be doing next year. The best thing about your class was that you give us alot of freedom.
Carson
Aloha Mr. Chung,
Thank you for being innovative, flexible, and creative in your lessons. I am thankful that you utilized different methods of teaching and understood each student and their differences in learning styles.
Thank you for providing open communication and opening your class to us; it was welcoming.

Dear Mr. Chung,
Thank you for this awesome year. You weren’t like all the other teachers, all nice and caring. You were your own person. You taught the way that you felt we would benefit the most. My parents really enjoyed it when you challenged me with algebra. And I thought that it was fun. One of the things that I really enjoyed was when you let us have free time to do whatever we wanted. The other thing that I enjoyed this year would have to be the economic system. Granted I got fired from my job twice, I still had a lot of fun. I hope that you continue to teach your class algebra and allow your students to express themselves through your blogs. I believe that you should stop listening to the teachers who are getting on your case. You’re your own person and you should teach the way you feel is right. They’ve probably been teaching the same way for 20-30 years and don’t want to change.
Lots of Love,
Taylor “Bubba” T.

Hi Mr. Chung
Thank you for giving us a fun and challenging year. You taught me lots of math and pushed to my potential. Thanks for teaching in different ways and showing us different perspectives and talking about expanding our paradigm. You taught us how the real world is and preparing us through the economic system. I had a fun time learning about the different dimensions and how our future will be new and how global warming is affecting us and we need to change our bad habits.
Have a good summer!!!!!!!!

Mr. Chung,
Thank you for teaching our children beyond the classroom, exposing them to reality of how the world really is and hopefully preparing them for a little of it. The students enjoyed learning in your class, as for Noah, he always shared about the interesting things he learned and it usually begins with “Did you know…?”
Hope you will enjoy your summer break and we hope to see you one day in the upper grades. Thank you again for caring for our keiki.

Hey Mr.Chung! Thank you for caring so much for me. I am very thankful that you called my mom and got on my case. I think that your teaching and skills will helpme next year and in the future. You rock Mr.Chung!!!! Do you like apples?
May 16th, 2008 at 6:14 pm
Sup Mr.Chung! You’re a great teacher who pushes the limit on teaching. You are always teaching new and fun. You are the teacher who is always on the cutting edge. When I was doing bad you yelled at me because you know that I can do better. I thank you for that. The blog was a fun thing because we didn’t have to write on a paper. THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!
From,
Christopher

The day of the Open House I knew I liked Mr. Chung. He showed the parents a video called “Shift Happens” that will ever remind me of how quickly the world is evolving. I was inspired and motivated to make sure Christopher will not be left behind. If he could generate such emotions from me, I was confident that he would evoke the same emotions from his students. He would take actions to ensure the children will be prepared for the future. Christopher was in good hands.
From that day forward, I was impressed with what Christopher would bring home. For the first time, Christopher was coming home with excitement and sharing stories of what he learned that day. He rarely expresses how his day was. I was always asking the 20 questions. He also brought home pages and pages of math homework. This wasn’t 5th grade math and Christopher loved it. David and I loved it too.
I liked Mr. Chung because he was passionate and he cared for the kids. A good example of this is when David and I were on our way to pick up Christopher from school. Mr. Chung was driving from the opposite direction. He stopped in the middle of the road and we asked how his day was. He said, “I was so mad at the kids I made them read their text books”. Knowing how technologically advanced he was, we knew how upset he must have been.
Best of all, I liked Mr. Chung for his different and realistic view and approach of the teaching world. This difference may not be well received by all; however I feel it is exactly what our children need for the 22nd century.
I thank you Mr. Chung for being part of brining change to better our keiki and school. Change is difficult but the reward will be worth it in the end. Your passion for our kids will be remembered. God bless you and your family.

Hi Mr.Chung!! Thank you for teaching us the algebra because it was very challenging. While I look back, I actually liked when I struggled best because after that I was always one of the best at the next type of algebra. I really had a good time this year on writing (only on blogs.) I had the best year in the whole time I was in Kamehameha from kindergarten. I hope you had a great time too but I could tell when you had bad times. You would say Oh No; we’re not going to do the class party!! I really hope you have a good next year and don’t get people mixed up like Codie and me. Have a nice summer bye.
Aloha Mr. Chung –
I will miss not hearing the words “Mr. Chung says” all the time.
You have been more than just a good teacher; you have been a role model as well. You have given Dylan tremendous confidence in his abilities this year, and have made learning a joy and a pleasure for him. Thank you for the difference you’ve made in Dylan’s life.

Mr. Chung,
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for such a wonderful job teaching your students. Taylor came home everyday excited about what she learned in school and eager to share it with others. Before your 5th grade class our normal everyday conversation would be me asking “What did you do in school today?” and Taylor replying “I don’t remember.” Now she goes on and on about all the things she has learned. Especially math. That was Taylors weakest subject but now she just loves it. I believe that it is the way you teach your class and how you relate to each student that makes them want to sit there, listen, learn and complete each assignment. Granted Taylor did not always turn in her completed work, at least we knew she did it.
Because of this class Taylor has learned so much about herself and life. She knows that she can do anything if she puts her mind to it and that hard work pays off in the end. Although the year threw you some curves, you managed to keep it all together. Thank You. I only hope that more teachers learn from you instead of take from you. Please do not change the way that you teach.

Hi, it’s me again. Ready for two more hints?
1). I like to stay after school
2). I always have my shirt tucked in
Anyway, I hope you have a good summer. As we would say: H.A.G.S., or Have A Great Summer!

Aloha Mr Chung,
I want to thank you for an exciting year! You managed to inspire and motivate Arielle continuously throughout the year with your passion for knowledge. Your unique technique of teaching practical skills have given her a good look at the real world. Arielle has taken a big step this year toward preparing herself for her future. She has grown in confidence and believes she alone can make a difference. It is rare to find a teacher that commands such respect from a student. Thank you for being that special teacher. You have touched our lives and we are forever grateful.

Hey Mr. C,
I just want to say thank you for helping me to have a great year. Before I used to bored when I went to school but now I am always excited to be in your class. You really have changed the I think and do things because you prepared us so well for the future and I want to thank you for that.
When you first made me go to study hall in the mornings I really hated it because I could go out to recess, but then when I went and kept going I got better and better at fractions and now I don’t need help at all!!!
Thank you for a great year and I think this has been the greatest year of school ever. Bye

Thanks mr.Chung for pushing me more than any other teacher I have had. Plus your lessons were fun. I really enjoyed my fifth grade year. I will never forget it. I can not explain how thankful i am. I will miss your style of teaching and the life lessons. I think I have learned more in 5th grade then I will in 6th and 7th. You are the best teacher ever and I really mean it this time. I will visit you next year I promise!!!!!
Thank you sooo much again Mr.Chung!

Aloha Andy:
Thank you for an amazing 5th grade year that was full of opportunities, challenges, and accomplishments. Jenna and I both benefitted from them. I especially enjoyed that Jenna shared snippets about daily classroom activity, from her point of view. It gave us a chance to have a conversation and share different perspectives. We are especially grateful that you are such a great role model. Jenna is especially interested in emulating your linguistic prowess (geez—as would I!!!) Thank you for teaching us relevant stuff, for sharing life lessons, and for awakening an entrepreneurial spirit within Jenna. I have watched Jenna grow and develop this school year and I like what I see. Mahalo nui loa!

Mr. Chung thank you for an awsome year. Thank you so much for making school fun! YOU ROCK(even though you are such a geek)! You don’t make the lessons boring and I actully like listening to your lessons. Thanks you so much for teaching algebra. It made me push meslef to go harder. But, I have to say by the ending of the school year you got stricter and your lesson were more boring but, you still did a good job of teaching us. I had so much fun doing the puzzles. You taught us life lessons that can help us through out our life. I was happy with you as my teacher becuase you got me ready for next year, 7th grade, 8th grade, and so on. You taught me thing that no other teacher would have taught me. First we are learning about genocide’s in Africa then one minute later we are learning about Versace’s Fall fasion show. You taught us about the differnt places around the world and what is happening there. I am so grateful to be in your class this year. You have taught me so much. So thank you so much. Hopefully i will have time to visit you next year.
THANK YOU!!!!

Casey’s 5th grade year in Mr Chung’s class……PRICELESS!
Kind of corny, but i could not resist! I cant believe how quickly this year is comming to an end… I just wanted to thank you, Mr Chung for the best year ever. We have always felt that Casey has so much academic potential which has never really been tapped…until this year! It has been amazing to hear her stories every day after school…Seeing her filled with enthusiasm, excited about learing, and teaching us a thing or two! As the year progressed, we saw her find her voice and heard her opinions about things going on in the world, on our island and in school. We could see the wheels turning and her confidence growing as the months went by. She has a whole new perspective now…she is more globally aware, she takes time to consider different views and opinions and is not afraid to say how she feels. She has always enjoyed math, but this year, you have taught her algebra and she is challenged… pushing herself a little at a time, trying new things, and mastering math skills! Thanks for thinking outside the box, and teaching the kids with many forms of media…we heard all about the you tube clips and movies, read the blogs, and wished we too could have participated in your economics lesson. You have been a tremendous role model! I know that Casey will always look back at this year and remember your life lessons… why its important to save, invest and not just want and be materialistic…to know what really matters the most. Its been a truely amazing year. We are filled with gratitude for you as a teacher, a friend and for the great infuence on Casey’s life this year. Thank You!

Aloha Mr. Chung,
As Triple D’s Mom said, we too will miss hearing “Mr. Chung says…”. You have made an unbelievable impact on Kapena, and we are so appreciative of all that you have done. Your concern for Kapena and each child as an individual is unsurpassed, and is reflective not only in challenging them to their individual academic needs which is hard enough for a teacher; but also in helping them develop their weeknesses as people. Only great teachers like you can make a child cry through your honesty, concern, and challenge to be better, and still be loved and respected. That is when true learning takes place. Like the Wise’s, Hoku and I were impressed from the first open house, which brought tears to my eyes. We new Kapena was extremely lucky, and we wished we could return to class with him. Then when you met with us parents to explain your class economic project, we really wanted to join the class. Thank you for preparing them as much as you could for the future academically, technologically, financially, and developmentally. Our only regret is that you can’t follow our kids up through the rest of their years at Kamehameha. We are thankful, however that you will reach more kids as they come up to 5th grade, and can make a wider impact. Hopefully our kids will not only be financially secure in the future to pick and choose whatever they want to do, but will like you, join in to help improve the education system and make a difference in this world.
Mahalo and Aloha piha (overflowing thanks and love),

Its been 3 days already! Okay . . uh Math! Even though I never really liked math I actually kind of liked doing the financial plan. If thats what i’m going to do when i’m older, i’m gonna have some money.

Mr. Chung,
Thank you so very much for giving our child the gifts of thinking critically, the greater ease at which she asks “why something is so”, the creative ways you instill methodical thinking; but most of all for your daily demonstration to your students through your example of challenging the status quo in a respectful manner. We truly appreciated your style of thinking “outside” the box. There are enough teachers who are very comfortable with the box – but your style of teaching will influence my young daughter in her life for years to come. We are thrilled that you have made such a positive impact in our ohana’s lives.
May 22nd, 2008 at 9:58 pm
Dear Mr. Chung,
Thank you for providing our son and the students of Room 204 with a dynamic year of “thinking outside of the box.” You had them working, thinking and reflecting. You believed in them. You’ve helped them believe that they can make a difference in their own lives, in the lives of others, that they can set their own trends to better the world we live in.
Thank you for helping TK strengthen his abilities to be responsible, to not settle for just average and to celebrate his successes.
Mahalo Mr. Chung! Have a wonderful summer!

Hey Mr.Chung,
Thank You so much for making this such an exciting year. I think you did a great job of teaching and pushing all of us to our full potential. I think the weirdest moments were when you would yell at us for no reason. I think you just wanted to yell at us. Maybe you thought it was fun. I don’t know why but this year was the best. I know I will never have a teacher like you ever again so I will treasure my fifth grade year. Another awkward moment was when you made us read our text books for the first and last time. That was really boring. The truth is I almost fell asleep. I think that was the most boring part of this year. The last thing that I will always remember is when we would all get off task and look up these weird things like “Genius Monkey”, “Japan Toilet Pranks”, and that silent library game. That was so funny. I also wanted to thank you for making this such an awesome year. I just loved the way you taught us so much and used videos, the internet and your own perspective. I will also miss the way you taught us with your computer, smart board, and your knowledge. I will never forget you. I will always remember you as being a funny, smart, child like, teacher that was some part respected. You did a great job this year!!
P.S. Thank you for trying to teach us those Hawaiian phrases.
Love,
Taylor M. A.K.A “Maihui”
Aloha Mr. Chung!
So uh…Who let the dogs out so early? Taylor has been coming home wagging her tail about “Mr. Chung this and Mr. Chung that.” What’s up with that??? All kidding aside, I know what’s up. You’ve done wonders with these children and have made learning fun and exciting for them. You’ve taught them many life skills and have instilled in Taylor a desire to always strive for excellence. She’s grown tremendously this year and in more than one way. As I mentioned before, I guess all good things must come to an end, or….maybe not! What do you think about moving to sixth grade? Like William Ward once said, “The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” Thanks for being a GREAT teacher!
Aloha,
Lori
