I am happy to join the Educational Technology Services (ETS) branch, servicing K-12 teachers at Kamehameha Schools Hawai`i.
Professional Development
I will be working with the high school team leaders, middle school administration, and the elementary school Curriculum Coordinator, via email, to schedule team time. When you are on the regular bell schedule I would like to arrange for 60 minute sessions, and 45 minutes sessions when you are on a modified schedule. I look forward to supporting your team for whole group discussions, focused training sessions, ETS department announcements, and imerging classroom technologies, campus and unit initiatives as-well-as on an individual one-to-one basis.
iCan Cafe’s
In addition I will be scheduling iCan Cafe sessions, which are short 20 minute sessions after school from 3:10 – 3:30 pm, once every 2 weeks. These sessions are optional and will be advertised in advance. I will be available as long as needed following each session for questions. Each session will be delivered only once, however session handouts or video resource will be posted to my blog in case you are not able to attend. The format for each iCan cafe will be a short video clip (under 5 minutes) that is followed by a discussion or a hand’s on exploration.
Open Mic – Smackdown
A smackdown is an open mic forum that allows individuals to share new technologies that they are utilizing and find valuable. Everyone is encouraged to participate in a 2-3 minute introduction of their resource or tip. Typically these are free online resources, quick how-to’s, or productivity tips, but there is NO limitations to what you can share. This is a fun event to attend even if you are not sharing. The first session will be during team time so that everyone can get a feel for the format and the setup that is required. If this is done following the above format you could go through a team of 7 in 21 minutes. The goal is to have 2-3 large group smackdowns this year. With the first one scheduled in the last 2 weeks before Christmas break. You will need to sign-up in advance so that we can appropriate enough time for this event. Please consider sharing 2-3 “resources” through out the year.
Scheduling
My position supports the elementary, middle, high, summer school and outreach programs and occasionally calls for me to be off-island, so scheduling can present some interesting challenges. The ideal schedule would give priority to the high school on Mondays, and Fridays, to the middle school on Wednesday mornings and Thursdays, and to the elementary school on Wednesday afternoons and on Tuesdays. Hopefully this guideline will work to minimize conflicts instead of create them. I will remain as flexible as needed to maximize the time we have together. Please don’t hesitate to request something that falls outside of the guides, as I am here to meet your needs.
I am looking forward to every opportunity to work with you, as you develop your technology skills, and explore and expand your 21st century classroom.
A hui hou, Chandell
