Third Graders and Wales!

What do you think of when hear the word Wales? Do you think of the animal? Well, before we started learning from our third grade friends there that’s what we thought of too! But, we soon learned that Wales is a country in the United Kingdom. It is next to England.

We are learning all about our friends in Wales using Google Presentations! Check out the neat stuff we are teaching and learning about each other!

Tahiti Collaboration Begins!

We have begun an exciting new collaboration with a school in Papeete, Tahiti!  Our Kindergarten and Third Grade students will be working with them using Skype throughout the rest of this and all of next year.

We cannot wait to learn all about them and are excited about teaching them about our community, Hawaiian language, and culture.

During our first Skype sessions with them we introduced ourselves to them and sang songs for each other.  We learned that there are many words in the Tahitian language that sound like the Hawaiian language!  We also learned some French words like Bravo!  We also learned that Aloha in Tahitian is Iaorana!

Here are some video clips of our first Skype sessions.  We are so excited about this project!

My Hopes and Dreams

My hope for the second half of the year is that our technology classroom will be a caring place where students will do their best work.

What is your hope for the rest of the school year?

A video from our friends in Maine!

Have you ever wondered what Christmas is like in a place that is cold and filled with snow?

Well, our friends in Maine made us a great video that talks about what Christmas is like in Maine. Maine is all the way on the East Coast of the United States.

Do you see any similarities or differences in the way they celebrate in Maine and the things you did for Christmas?

A Letter From Wales!

Our third graders are starting an exciting new collaboration with a group of students from Wales! We are so excited about learning about their language and culture and we canʻt wait to share things about our school, community, and culture with them!

We started by writing a group email to each other. Click here to view the email they sent us and to see a few pictures of them!

One of our first questions about them was: Where is Wales? Here is a map that shows exactly where Wales is! Can you find Wales on the map?

Fun with Apps

Today the third graders had some fun with the app “Comic Book.”

When you are using technology all kinds of things can be tricky or go wrong.  We know we are all computer superheroes because we are here to help each other!
