Our lovely little kindergarteners are part of an awesome project! We are collaborating with classes from Baltimore and Canada to create our own versions of the story “The Mitten” by Jan Brett. Mrs. Derr and Mrs. Nihipalis’ classes are done with their versions of the story. We followed the same basic plot line but used a Hawaiian setting and characters!
We can’t wait to Skype with the Kindergarten students in Baltimore and Canada to share our story and see their story too!
We have begun an exciting new collaboration with a school in Papeete, Tahiti! Our Kindergarten and Third Grade students will be working with them using Skype throughout the rest of this and all of next year.
We cannot wait to learn all about them and are excited about teaching them about our community, Hawaiian language, and culture.
During our first Skype sessions with them we introduced ourselves to them and sang songs for each other. We learned that there are many words in the Tahitian language that sound like the Hawaiian language! We also learned some French words like Bravo! We also learned that Aloha in Tahitian is Iaorana!
Here are some video clips of our first Skype sessions. We are so excited about this project!
Geography week is here! There are so many awesome things that our teachers have planned for geography week. And in the lab this week we will be tweeting about all the cool things we are doing and learning! But, just to celebrate, here are a few AWESOME sites that have to do with geography!
