With your Riley reports turned in, sample line renderings and your Vasarely Paintings almost complete, you all should have a good understanding of what Op art is. So my question for you is… What is Op art in your eyes? What did you learn about in this unit of study and what skills or techniques do you believe you will take with you in the creation of your own art?

In the next few classes we will not only review the elements of design, but create a few studio pieces based on the principles of design. You should be able to clearly convey which principle you are focused on in your art work. Be prepared to verbally discuss and critique your completed art piece.

So, we have just about completed our grid and portrait unit… are you ready to paint it now? Remember that you are to simulate a Close likeness yet find your own voice in your work. Reports on this artist will be collected on 11/25/08 so keep working on your bio sheets. I can’t wait to read your views on this ground breaking artist.

Ok so we all know who Bridget Riley is and what she has done for the art world, now who is this Matisse guy?…
Well you need to tell me what you think about Matisse, his art style, and what themes he focused on… Make sure to include what you have enjoyed so far in this unit.
I await to read about your vast knowledge on this subject…

Well after watching the video, what technique is your favorite? Why? I really like to use the smudge technique. It makes great values and creates a soft look to areas. Do you believe knowing different techniques will add to your artistic skill? I know it will. Practice, practice, practice!

Ok you fellow OP artists… By now you should know what that art style means, and who Bridget Riley is. After completing your studio project, which piece do you feel is the best representation of the OP art style and why? Is it your monochromatic or your compliment piece??? You tell me!
