Founder’s Day Pledge and Statement of Appreciation

HISTORICAL PLEDGE IS REEXAMINED AND REFINED BY THE CLASS OF 1982

It started as an experimental assignment in Mr. Obrecht’s advanced composition class. Juniors, at the time of the class, were to evaluate the original Founder’s Day Pledge, written by Mr. Uldrich Thompson, a former teacher and principal of the Kamehameha School for Boys, and create a modern version of the pledge for the 20th century and beyond. The result is a new Statement of Appreciation, voted on by the class of 1982, and adopted by the administration, for use for the first time at Founder’s Day 1981. (Ka Mō‘ī, December 11, 1981)
