I think football helped because they loved the game like it is their life, so when Coach Boone said they better start getting along with each other or they are off the team, then they started to get along. It also helped because they wanted to win and I think they knew to win, they had to work as a team.
I think the team helped the adults learn to overcome their prejudices by showing them, look, if we can get along, than you kids can get along too. Also, in their own houses they probably told their parents the other race is not bad.
I think that it would be really painful to see people hating each other because of their skin color. To me, it is so stupid because we are all humans. If I were black back then, it would be so stressful for me because it is like everyone hates you.

I think that playing football with mixed races helped the students of T.C. Williams overcome their prejudices because this showed the students that there is no difference no matter what your skin color is or what race you are. We are all the same. I also think that playing football was a way to connect the White people with the Black people and let them get to know each other better and to get them to like each other.
The football at T.C. Williams helped the adults in the community get over their prejudices because everyone loves to watch football and if Black people and White people like to watch football and there are Black and White people in the community, both races will have to intermingle with each other. I also think it opened the White people’s eyes and let them see that Blacks are no different than Whites.
I think it would be tough living in a racially divided community because then one race would think the other race hates them and then everyone would think that until one race talks to the other race and works things out. But still you would need a lot of confidence to do that, especially if you are considered the lower race.

Playing football helped the students overcome their prejudices about each other because they all had to play together on a team. For example, when a white player missed a block on purpose, the black ball carrier fumbled and the other team got the ball. They figured out that that didn’t do anything good!
The TC Williams football team also helped the adults in the community because they thought that their team would do badly because coach Boone was black. But after they started winning most of their games, they started to realize that hey, this guy’s a good coach! That’s when they started realizing that it’s not all about the skin color of the person.
I think there would be a lot of hate in the community. Also, I think there would be a lot of violence.

I think that playing football with mixed races was good for the students of different races because they stopped judging people from what they looked like on the outside. I think that after they got to know each other, they thought differently about them. Before Julius and Gerry became best friends, they hated each other. When they still hated each other, they got into a big fight that was between the blacks and the whites.
The football team taught other people that just because you are black or white, it doesn’t make you any different from other people. Since Herman Boone was the coach that helped the football team at T.C. Williams go to States, people started thinking differently about blacks.
I think that if I were a black person living in a racially divided community, I would be scared because back then a lot of people didn’t like blacks, so I think that I might be afraid of getting hurt just because of my race.

I think football helped them overcome their prejudices about each because everyone loved the game and they had to work as a team to succeed. Also, when they played they didn’t think about the skin color, they just played the game. Coach Boone helped them so much and helped them bind together as one and look beyond their skin color to see what was truly inside.
The football team at T.C. Williams helped the adults realize that it doesn’t matter what skin color you have, it matters what you have inside. I think when Gerry told her mom that he was going to meet Julius at the basketball place because she didn’t want him do go where Black people were, she came to realize that Black people were not so bad. She then started to respect Julius.
I think it would have been very hard for the black people to live in a community because white people didn’t really like them. When a brick was thrown through coach Boone’s house, I was really scared. I can’t believe that we treated each other that way. We are all the same. Skin color doesn’t matter.

Football helped because you had to play with other races or you don’t play football. They learn that the team is the team. You have to have teamwork to win or have a good time playing. If you can’t handle having other races on the team, then don’t play.
When the parents see that their children have new friends with other races, then they usually have to get used to them because you don’t want to hurt your child’s feelings. Also, they were the ones that raised them to be prejudiced.
It would be hard because you wouldn’t be treated equally with other people and if you were in sports, it would be hard because some people won’t allow you to play. Also, some Whites were uncomfortable because their friends were being discriminated against.

I think that football helped students to get over their prejudice because in football you need teamwork and communication. If the players have prejudice against each other, they will always lose. If a white person does not do well for a black person, other people would blame it on the black person and that is a problem.
I think the football team at T.C. Williams helped the adults and the community by dealing with their prejudice and making the players be good friends. This made their families live a more peaceful life and since they won every game, that made the community appreciate coach Boone.
In a community that is racially divided, there would be many fights and they would be a lot of black people being abused in horrible ways like lynching.

Football helped the students get over the hate because they had to work together to win the football games. It helped them get along because IF they didn’t, they would be unorganized. They had to learn about each other or else, they would have to go to 4 practices a day!
The football teams helped the school, community, and parents by showing them that Blacks and Whites can get along and that there is no difference between them other than skin color.
I think that people would feel uncomfortable and that there would be a lot of fighting.

I think that football brought the Black and White boys together because they had to room together and knew that you need teamwork to win a game. So, they tried and succeeded to become friends. When coach Boone roomed them together, they were mad. But, they became good friends after and said they were “soul brothers.” It is cool
how coach Boone brought them together. This proves that different races CAN get along.
I think the football team at T.C. Williams brought the adults together because they saw that if their kids were friends, they could be too. Also, when Gerry brought Julius over to his house, his mom was going to shake his hand but he gave her a hug instead.
I think living in a racially divided community would be hard especially if I were Black because White people would throw bricks through my window or something. Also, if I was White, I would be so brainwashed to think Blacks were monkeys that I wouldn’t even know it. It is sad
to think how people treated each other back then. But, I am glad
that it is not that way today.

i think that football helped the boys get over their prejudice of each other because football requires teamwork, and if they want to be good at football, then they have to learn teamwork. Not only did getting along with each other help them on the field but it also helped them get along anywhere. By being on the football team together, both the black and white students got along with each other so they did the same thing off the field.
The football team helped the adults overcome their prejudice between the blacks and whites by showing them what it’s like to get along, and showed the adults how easy it was and how much better things were without segregation.
I think that there would be a lot of fighting. It’ll probably be not much different from Virginia in the past, and how deluded the whites were to thinking that whites are better than blacks.
May 4th, 2009 at 8:00 pm
I think football helped the students get over their prejudices about each other by bringing them together as a team. Football is a team sport. In order to win, they had to work together. Many of them thought that Blacks were animals or Whites were trash. Once they got to know each other, they didn’t see what they saw before. They saw men who had goals in life. They saw people with supporting families. When they got back to school, they could see how much they changed.
The football team helped the adults in the community overcome their prejudice by becoming friends. Gerry and Julius’s friendship was an example. Gerry’s mom didn’t want Julius coming over because of his race. Once Julius met Mrs. Bertier, he hugged her and they became like family. Even after Gerry got paralyzed, their friendship lasted forever.
I would be in pain because there would be so much fighting and violence. I would also be scared because you don’t know what’s going to happen next. Someone could vandalize your home or hurt your family.

I think that since high school football was such a big deal, I think the players on the T.C Williams football team were role models to the people in the community. And since the players and coaches on the team got along, black or white, the people in the community followed their behavior.
If I lived in a racially divided environment and my parents were saying to not like another race, I would listen to them. I’m sure there would be fights and other types of violence, and that is why I am glad that most people in Hawaii are not told to hate another race, and we all hang out with each other no matter what our ethnicities are.

I think that playing football helped the team overcome their prejudices against each other because when you play football, you act as a team when you need to cover or make a pass. They were always together so they had to learn to live with each other. You always need to stick together even when you are not on the field. It takes hard work but together they can win on the field and off. They all shared the same passion and love of football which helped them overcome their differences.
I think the football team at T.C. Williams helped the adults in the community overcome their prejudices by showing them that by working together, you can succeed at anything. It showed the adults that if their children can overcome it, then they can too by working together to see all humans are equal despite the color of their skin.
It would hurt me to live in a racially divided world. I would walk outside and see two different bathrooms just because of skin color. People would hate each other and you would never see any two colors together. There probably would be more wars, I can’t even imagine what the world would be like. I am very grateful to live in this time period.

I think that playing football with different races helped the students overcome their prejudices about each other because they all played and enjoyed football. This brought the mixed races together because they had to work as a team. In order for the two races to work together, they had to become friends, and know that it didn’t matter what color their skin is.
The team at T.C. Williams helped the adults in their community overcome their prejudices because they were the first football team to have both black and white players playing together. Since they did very well during the season, it showed the community that black and white people can get along and be friends.
I think it would be hard to live in a racially divided community because if you were black, then the white people would think that they are better than you. We are all human and it doesn’t matter what color your skin is. We are still human beings.
May 4th, 2009 at 8:32 pm
I think that playing football helped the students by making them go through so much agonizing pain. They ran a mile for fumbling the ball and a whole lot of other things that normally happens on the field. After going through so much with other people you just get to know them and start bonds that last a lifetime. The differences that they had were each other’s strengths.
The Titans helped the adults realize that a time of change has occurred and they should get used to it. The adults still believed that the white race was the dominant race, but the real dominant race is the human race. The Titans showed everyone that two races can get along even if there are some bumps during the ride. It all works out for the better of our kind.
I believe that if I lived in that kind of community, I would think that I would feel as if I were neglected over and over again, and the pain never stops. There will be all sorts of racist arguments and insults going around and it’s painful to have to watch people fight for bad beliefs.

I think playing football helped the students overcome their racism because they had to work as a team. You can’t win football with one person, football is a team sport. I think a significant part in the movie for this question was when Gerry kicked their fullback off the team that was his good friend. That was a significant part because it showed even though that Gerry was White and his friend was White, he backed the Black running back because he knew it was the right thing.
The football team showed the adults how to get over being prejudice by working with one another as a team regardless of the color of their skin. Because their new coach was a Black man, they thought they were going to do poorly in the season but they performed so well they accepted him. It didn’t matter about the color of his skin.
I think living in a racist community would be hard and scary because you always have to be on your guard. Some people could come and just start mobbing you, just like when coach Boone got the brick thrown threw his window by the White people that were prejudice.
May 4th, 2009 at 8:46 pm
I think football was so big in their lives that even if coach Boone was black and some of the players were colored, the white kids still got along because they would get kicked off the team if they didn’t.
The T.C. Williams football team made a impression on the parents because when Campbell met his white friend’s mother, Campbell was so happy. When the guy died in the end, both black and white parents attended the funeral.
If I lived in a racially divided town I would see a white and black everything. I think there would be a lot more violence. I would be treated lowly like the other colored children.

I think that playing football helped the students overcome their prejudiced ways because all of them wanted to win. Since they all wanted to win, they had to work together to win the state championships. One part that stands out the most to me in the movie showed prejudice disappearing on the football team. When the football captain tells his friend to block the black person better, soon after those two people, the football captain and the black person became best friends. In a speech, the football captain said that when he hated his friend that was black, he realized that he was only hating his own brother in a figure of speech.
The football team of T.C. Williams helped the adults in the community overcome their prejudices by having their parents live through what their children went through, and learn that no matter what skin color or nationality, you and I are both the same. Soon the parents spread this way of thinking around the community and even the most prejudiced person’s paradigm was changed. That’s what made everyone else in the community follow.
In my opinion, I think that if I lived in a community that was racially divided, it would be very unsafe for anyone to live in. I also find it impossible to live a peaceful and quiet life, the area is definitely not even close to child-friendly. It is very possible that if everyone in the community is prejudice and you are black and new to the town, a brick most likely with a note that threatens you would come flying through your window in a few weeks. I am very grateful that I don’t live in a city like that.
GOD BLESS EVERYONE THAT WAS HARMED BY PREJUDICE ACTS ! ! !

Playing football helped the boys overcome their prejudice by working together. In order for them to win they had to work together. For example, there were two boys that completely disliked each other because Julius was colored and Gerry was not. As the movie went along, the two boys ended up putting their differences aside and worked together so they would have a better chance of winning. Actually, I think it was not only them two that did get along in the movie, it was the whole team. I think that is because as you spend more time with each other, you grow to like each other.

Playing football helped the students overcome their prejudices about each other because when the players were in the football camps Coach Boone made the players share rooms and get along with each other He made them learn about each other and then report back to Coach Boone after they were all done.
The players at T.C. Williams helped the adults in the community overcome their prejudices by mixing the blacks and the whites, and making them play on the same team. It showed the community that different races can work together and get along.
I would feel bad because people are putting their differences against each other because of their different skin color.
May 5th, 2009 at 8:02 pm
I think that they didn’t quit because the white kids were looking into their career and maybe playing for the NFL. I think the colored people like the blacks were just looking forward to playing football. When coach Boone turned into the head coach and made them pair up with the other colored people, I think the whites learned how to respect blacks and the blacks learned that not all white people are mean.
I think when Gary wanted Julius to meet his mom, and the mom was racist so it wasn’t easy to try to get along with each other. When Julius came over, the mom offered to hand shake Julius’ hand, Julius just hugged her. When Gary got hurt and he was in the hospital, it seemed like the mother liked him.
I think that living in a racist world would be hard. When the tourists come, I think they would be treated like a king or a queen. I think that the world would be more hectic, and there would be more drama than now. We would have to eat at different times, drink water at different water fountains, and we would even react with each other into a fight. The world was hard back then. I’m lucky to have been born in a different time.
May 5th, 2009 at 8:23 pm
I think that playing football helped the students overcome their prejudices because they were forced to be together. Football is a team sport that requires everybody to work together to be successful. For example, if your line doesn’t block then your quarterback will get sacked. All people on the team are dependent upon each other if they want to win.
The players had to learn about and evaluate each other. This helped them to see each other as people and not just a skin color.
As the football team worked together and played as a winning team, they were an example for the community to set aside their differences in color and race.
It would be junk living in a community that was racially divided. Nobody of the opposite race would like each other and there would be a lot of hatred, fights, riots and other awful things going on. I wouldn’t feel safe or happy living in that kind of situation.
May 11th, 2009 at 8:48 pm
Playing football helped the students with their racist attitudes by letting them learn about each other, changing the paradigm that black people aren’t so bad. As they moved on in football, they started respecting each other.
It helped the adults learned that anyone, even black people can be successful, and not all of them are dumb. It also helped them get along with other people, not just judging people on race alone.
I think if I were a black person living in a racially divided community, it would be very hard because everyone is teasing and spitting on you just like you were slaves. They didn’t believe that they could do anything.
If I were a white person, deluded from all the propaganda in T.V. and our parents, I would also think that black people were bad and dumb people.
