The difference was that 10-14 year olds are supposed to find a husband or wife before16 to marry. Today we have to wait until 20 years of age to marry or get engaged. I would not like to live in Matilda’s time because women didn’t have much freedom unlike today women and girls get a lot of freedom.
The greatest advancements American society has made is vaccines for different sickness and they have made a center to hold different diseases just incase they can use it as a vaccine for a different disease.

I think the life of a 10-year-old in 1793 is different from a 10-year-old today because in 1793 most kids worked and didn’t get an education but today kids go to school for an education. In 1793 they didn’t have much medicine but now they have a lot of medicine. One thing that I enjoy is that now they have better games and technology because in 1793 they didn’t have computers, video games, or electric cars but now they have all that stuff. I would rather live in this time because today they have education for kids and medicine. I like all there latest discoveries too.
I think a major advancement from that time is the medicine and advancements in math, science, and technology. Another advancment is sending a man into space and space exploration.

In 1793 they had to work harder to help, support and feed their families. They also started working from a young age like 6 or 7. Now you don’t have to work until your 17 or 18. A big thing now is education because back then you were lucky if you went to school. Now we say your lucky if you don’t go to school
I rather live now then then because there are more advancements.
Big advancements from then is technology like computers, cars, video games, medicine, and guns.

One thing that was different in 1793 was that no one went to school so they just spend there time working on there chores. It was also different because they waorked more than play, I think they worked more becasue electricity wasnt invented yet so there was a lot less technology so they had to do most of the work, now you dont even get a job until your 18! And you get paid for more money!
i think that technology has advanced the most because if you think about it they didnt have electricity, and today most of our big inventions require electricity.Computer, laptop, wii, Xbox Ect……

In 1793 it seems that children made up a big portion of the work force. It’s as if all they did was work from morning to night. They also had less freedoms than we have today as far as choosing who they want to marry. In the story a comment was made about Matilda’s age and finding her a husband. The Mom also mentioned that she wasn’t allowed to be around Nathaniel because of his working class. We are so lucky to have the freedom to choose who we want to marry. When I think about how children lived back then it seems like they were servants more than children. I’d rather live in this day and age where we can get a good education and determine our own future.
I think the greatest advancement that American Sociey has made was investing in children for the future. Today we are expected to work hard in school in order to become good leaders in the future. I don’t know how we’ve regressed but I know from the news that we are in some hard economic times and people are being layed off. So something must’ve went wrong.

How was the life of a 10-year-old in 1793 different from the life of a 10-year-old today? In which period would you rather live? Why?
What are the greatest advancements the American society has made since then? How have we regressed?
The difference of a 10-year old person in 1793 than a 10-year old person today is that in 1793, kids didn’t “have” to go to school, they could work at home with their parents.
Also, in 1793, they didn’t have entertainment or television. They had to entertain themselves. At home, sometimes when they want to entertain themselves, their parents get bossy and instead of letting them entertain themselves, they do chores.
Some of the greatest advancements we have made is the gene scanner. That is one of our greatest improvements because we can tell if you are going to have a certain disease. If you know what’s coming up, you can try to prevent that certain thing from happening.
Another great advancements we made is the television. We have a visual screen to look at to see what’s happening around the world or for entertainment like Cartoon Network. If we know what’s happening around the world, we could make connections to other happenings or events in history such as the yellow fever.
February 24th, 2009 at 8:47 pm
The life for a ten year old in 1793 was exteremly hard. One reason is because the yellow fever was going around at the time. So it was hard not to get the yellow fever because it was spreadable, also thier was no cure for the yellow fever. So when you get sick by the yellow fever it might be over for you. Compared to a ten year old of the 21st century we have alot more technology and of course much more advanced than in 1793. We are also diferent because the yellow fever is almost non-existing and if you get the yellow fever you can get the vacine.
The greatest advancments since 1793, lets start with the light bulb and electricity which they did not have during the time. Another major advancment is better medical care, at the time if you went to the doctors it is almost the same as staying at home to cure yourself. Unlike today the medical care is much, much, more advanced than in 1793.
One way America has regressed is by taking over more land when not needed, for example Americas largest city population could only fit Aloha stadium so why did America need elbow room maybe no one will know.

Thing that a normal kid in 1793 did is that they churned butter, they didn’t have to go to school, and they had to help there family to do things.
I would rather live in this time then in 1793 because what if I had the yellow fever and back then they didn’t have a vaccine shot and they couldn’t help them.
The greatest thing that I think we improved over then the years is Tv(tele vision), genes and how we figure them out, and how were not racies anymore. And things that we move back or as you call it regessed, is that the U.S are still trying to take more land when you have so much. Like the ceded land which is not ceded it was taken away.
February 26th, 2009 at 2:42 pm
I think that life was different in the life of 1793 because children were a lot more disciplined than children now and they could take care of themselves a lot better than children now because. I would rather live in a life now because in 1793 there wasn’t any vaccines so people were a lot more prone to getting diseases and since they didn’t have any vaccines to take a lot more people would end up dead.
We now have robots that can do things for us or technologies that make things a lot more easier on us. We have regressed with our economy because in 1793 people didn’t go through as many money problems as they do now. technology has gotten better but many other things have regressed.
February 26th, 2009 at 3:46 pm
The difference between being a 10 year old now and then is that back then the children had more responsibility’s such as chores or helping a family Business. Now the expectations for kids I think are lower. Also back then if you get cold theirs not that you can do about it, but now we have medicines and vaccines.
I would rather live in our time because we have all kinds of new technology, like electronics, computers and laptops that help us contact people faster and look up info faster. With the new technology we can get around faster with better cars, robots that can help out humans or do jobs that humans don’t want to do.
February 26th, 2009 at 4:08 pm
I think that kids from 1793 to 2009 changed because in 1793 kids did not have to go school. Instead they could work with there parents at a coffehouse. Another reason why it changed is that back then is that they did not have any vaccine or medicene and as of right now the year 2009 we have alot of medicenes to take care of are bodies.
The greatest advancements is that technology changed by making robots, having computers, DVD players. I think that is the greatest things that have been made and what also comes with technonlogy is the brain. The brains of humans are starting to get more sharper that is the only way they thought about making electronics.

Back then they had to wear appropriate cloths. You had a lot of chores to do. You had to follow a strict level of behavior. I would rather live now because we are freer to what we wear and how we act. Now it’s not likely to see a child working.
We now have vaccines and cures for diseases. We have more doctors and care. We have more freedom. We have more advanced technology. The level of behavior is lower. Less is expected from us.
February 26th, 2009 at 8:13 pm
The life of a 10 year old back then and the life of a 10 year old now is way different. Children back then were very conservative they always wore clothes that usually covered most of their body. They also always listened to their parents no matter what. Today we usually talk back to our parents which is really bad. Our clothes are really different from back then, we can wear anything we want now. I would rather live in this time period because back then some children didn’t even go to school, which would lead to bad choices in the future. You need education for knowledge. Also today we have a lot of things that they did not have back then, like computers that you can look up information really fast and TVs to learn about what is happening around the world.
I think the greatest advancements since back then is the technology, medicine and vaccines. The reason why I think this, is because the technology back then was very low, they didn’t have electricity. Also medicines and vaccines were not even invented yet, now they are really important to us because it prevents us from getting diseases and from getting sick, it also prevents our population from dropping drastically like back then.
February 26th, 2009 at 8:26 pm
I think a 10 year old now is a lot diffrent from a 10 then because back then they worked and got paid and helped alot in the family. Also they were alot more disciplined then a regular ten year old today. Now days a ten year old goes to school and can not work, and they are kind of lazy compared to the ten year olds back then. I would like to live in this time because now we have so new much technology that they didn’t have. And they didn’t have the right things to help stop deisese outbreaks.
To me I think that the greatest achivments in american society is vaccines and advance medicne because now we can stop deisese out breaks beefore it starts and if we do have an out break then we will have the right medicineto stop it .
February 26th, 2009 at 9:22 pm
One difference between girls then and girls now is freedom of speech. Girls now can vote as opposed to 1793 when they couldn’t. Girls/woman now can have whatever job they want (for example,an anesthesiologist
). Back then, girls had to work in whatever buisiness (if any) they had.
that women can vote now because women have rights too!
I’d rather live in this period because I don’t want to have to be married before I’m sixteen (more like twenty-three). And I think it is cool
I think a big advancement is space travel. We were go getters only twenty years ago about space. I think we have reggressed majorly on this subject because now, we are hardly spending anything on space travel. We’d be lucky to send a human back up in space anytime soon.
I think another achievement is our medicinal studies. We could have a cure for heart diesease, diabeties, parkinsons and other genetic dieseases. But, we need to have the motivation to want to find a cure. If Americans wanted to achieve these goals instead of sitting at home playing video-games they could. All they need is the need to achieve such goals.

A life from a 10 year old in 1793 different from a 10 year old now is that in 1793 a 10 year old girl/boy had totally different responesibillties. The had more respect for their elders then the 10 year olds now, I think that 10 year olds in 1793 had stricter rules from their parents. The 10-year olds now have rules that are not as bad as the ones from the 10 year olds from 1793. I would rather live in the period would have now because, now we have medicines for certain diseases. And in 1793 they didn’t yet develope these medicines.
Big achivments they have made since then is the developement of technology, electricity, and medicines.

I would rather be a 10-year-old now than a 10-year-old in 1793. Since the yellow plague is an easy thing to be caught, I would not want to take chances on getting the yellow fever even if I may be immune to the fever.
During that time, people did not invent technologies like cars. It was a hard time to get around to places without a car. Like in the story Fever 1793, Mattie and her grandfather had to get a ride on a carriage with the farmer, the farmer’s wife, and the farmer’s baby. Now, almost everyone has a car. Now when your riding in the car and you get hot, you can turn on the air conditioner.
Now since the people have these technologies, it is easier for us to do things. People also have medicines and cures for some diseases and illness. Those are the biggest advancements people made since 1793. But those advancements made other problems occur like global warming by making cars and factories. But people would probablly be better in 1793 because they have diseases too but no global warming and hardly anybody was homeless. Now people have new diseases and old diseases with no cures and we have global warming and people are homeless.

Back in 1793, those times were hard for the children because you could play with someone one day and the next day they were very sick. I feel bad for those children because if their parents went to heaven, then they needed to care for themselves and maybe even their siblings which is really hard. They would suddenly have to become the adult and make life or death decisions. Maybe they weren’t even ready for that because their parents used to take care of the family. Now those children would have more responsibilities and would need to take care of the younger children first and themselves last. To wake up one day without no one there would be devasting.
I would want to live in this period because we are so lucky to have good doctors and new medicines that they didn’t have back then.
I think we have advanced in medicines, medical research and education. People of today have more chances to heal and live a longer life. Technology is so important and makes our lives so much easier and helps people advance in researching things.
I guess we have regressed more in the home because children don’t have as many responsibilities like they used to and take lots of things we have for granted.

The life of a 10 year old back then was really hard because you didn’t go to school you just worked to survive. Also doctors didn’t have cures for diseases like the yellow fever, smallpox or the measles so if you got a disease you would probably die. There was no Tylenol, Antibiotic, or any modern day medicine. I would rather live in this time period because I wouldn’t have to worry about getting the yellow fever because it has been wiped out, and because of all of the new technology life is way easier then it was back then.
I think the greatest advancements American society has made is transportation. Before they had cars they had carriages now we have cars, planes and submarines. We have regressed by how we are so greedy, because we say that we need more land but we actually don’t we are just being greedy. We have regressed because we are irresponsible with the environment and our resources. We used to be a self-sustaining nation but now we import 70% of our oil to run our country now we aren’t a self-sustaining nation.

Life of a 10-year-old in 1793 is different than life for a 10-year-old today is that 1793 you didn’t usually go to school unless you were a male and had a lot of money. Life in 1793 was also different because in 1793 they had the yellow fever and measles wiping out a ton of people and the Docters didn’t have cures or medicine like Tylenol or Advil that we have today so if you got sick you would probably die unless you had a strong immune system. In 1793 there were also cirtan rights that women didn’t get.
Pearsonally I would rather live in this time periond because we have all of the vaccines for the deadly diesises in 1793 And we have more advanced technology.
I think the greatest advancedments America has achieved are things like cars, Airplanes and metro trains. In 1793 you rode in carrages if you were rich and you rode horses if you were poor you could also ride in the stage coach in 1793 now you just ride in an airplane.
America has regressed because they pollute to much and they are greedy and want money.

The life of a ten-year-old was really hard because they had to do all this back-breaking work and do chores all day long. It was really hard because you couldn’t just go anywhere to get food or water. You had to walk back then, but now we can just go to the supermarket. I rather live now because we can just go to a car to drive to the supermarket and get food, instead of hunting or walking a lot. Also, we can just go to the faucet to get a drink of water. What was really hard was to take a bath because you had to get a fire going to boil water, and then take your bath.
One of the greatest advancements was transportation because back then if you sailed from the East Coast to Hawaii, it could take months and now you can just go on a plane and get there in a matter of hours. We have regressed in a way because we have gotten lazy and unfit. People were healthier because they did more labor.
