TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from those three worlds. Since then its scope has become ever broader.

The annual conference now brings together the world’s most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk of their lives (in 18 minutes).

Mission of TED: Spreading ideas.
We believe passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and ultimately, the world. So we’re building here a clearinghouse that offers free knowledge and inspiration from the world’s most inspired thinkers, and also a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other.

Today, TED is therefore best thought of as a global community. It’s a community welcoming people from every discipline and culture who have just two things in common: they seek a deeper understanding of the world, and they hope to turn that understanding into a better future for us all.

    I watched the Brain Magic video. Keith Barry did 5 Magic tricks. My favorite trick was when there was a spike in one cup and he made the volunteer smash all the cups. Then there was no spike.

    The message of this video is that if you know how, you can easily bend people’s minds.

    I really liked this video. The tricks were amazing. I would totally recommend it to my class.

    I watched a video on creativity.

    Vik Muniz was trying to show that you can do art using many different types of things.

    I would recommend this video to my class because he made many different things out of art, like he could make wires out of flowers, trees out of thread, children out of sugar, people out of spaghetti, and scissors out of earthwork.

    I watched one part of the video about brain magic that really made me nervous because there was a spike underneath a cup and out of four cups, there was only one spike. It made me nervous because they would smash the cups to see if there was the spike underneath it. If there was a spike underneath it, the man’s hand would get stabbed. Luckily, the man’s hand did not get hurt.

    I would recommend this video because it makes you nervous and you do not want to stop watching. This video is very exciting.

    I watched a video about a parrot that talked to the audience by answering the owner. I think the message that the trainer is trying to get across to the audience is take care of the environment so these animals have a good place to live and our next generation will be able to see these amazing creatures. The parrot was a good way of getting across the message that we have to take care of our environment.

    My opinion on this video was that it was funny how the parrot would talk to its owner and would reply to every remark that the owner gave.

    I would suggest this video to our class because it was funny and it would teach us a good lesson of to take care of the environment.

    The video that I watched was about how important our brain is and about how it controls our body and how it affects our life. The video that I watched showed a real human brain, and I think it doesn’t look cool. It looks gross! Anyway, I would recommend this video to my class because we can learn about our bodies.

    The video that I saw was by Dan Gilbert. It is called, “Why are we happy? Why aren’t we happy?” It first starts off with Dan Gilbert talking about the evolution of the human head, how “fat” it was around 2,000,000 B.C., and how much smaller it got in 200,000 B.C. Then, he said why our heads got bigger. It gained two new parts of the brain called the “frontal lobe” (I think that’s what he said) and the prefrontal cortex. Why is the prefrontal cortex important? It gives us “experience” before even trying something out. This is something that none of our ancestors ever had. Then, Gilbert gave the audience a little pop quiz to see how their prefrontal cortexes were working. You had to choose a situation that you would want happen to you. One of them was winning the lottery and the other one was losing the ability to move your arms and legs. If you chose winning the Lottery, you win! Just Kidding. You failed the quiz. If you chose losing the ability of moving your arms and legs, you lost as well. Why? After a year, both of those people were equally happy. Some people think that you need to find happiness, but you already have it inside of you. Then, Dan Gilbert said there are two types of happiness: Synthetic happiness (what you make when you don’t get what you want) and natural happiness (when you get what you want) In the end, you will get the same amount of happiness.

    I think that the essential question is “Why do we get happy?”

    I think that Dan Gilbert gave a “good enough” presentation. I got a little bored in the middle of it but, I just think I got bored because I was a little tired. Other than that, I think that this was a good presentation with humor and intelligence.

    I would recommend this video to my class and Wailani. I would recommend it because it combines many things such as humor, science, and so many other things.

    What I watched on TED is “Five Dangerous Things You Should Let Your Child Do”. What I think that the speaker is trying to get across is that other people are limiting their children’s learning by thinking that they’ll hurt themselves such as, some parents think that anything sharper than a golf ball is too sharp for ages 10 and under. Also, if the children get hurt, they learn a lesson. Never to do the thing they did wrong again. They will try different ways of doing things to keep from getting hurt.

    I think that this video is very good because it shows that even though certain things are dangerous, kids have the natural ability to understand how to keep from getting hurt. When I was about six or seven, I was playing with fire while we were at camp. When I put things into the fire, I noticed that it disappeared. I didn’t put my hand in there because I thought that the fire would make my hand disappear.

    I would recommend this video to my class because we’re all kids! This video is ALL about SAFTEY FOR KIDS!

    The video I watched is about how our brains are badly wired and to have fun with it! I am really interested in illusions and the brain thats why I chose this video! This video was about our brain and opticall illusions and how our brains are badly wired. One way our brains are badly wired is that if we see the opticall illusion and how its done we still can’t stop the illusion from illuding us.

    The message the speaker is trying to get out is that our minds are badly wired and to have fun with it.

    My Opinion on this video is that its really cool and help you realize alot about your brain.

    I would totally reccomend this video to Everyone because its super cool and it helps you realize alot and its fun!!!

    I think the message the guy was trying to get across was danceing is not so bad it not that good eathier. Well I thought it was really cool because he was poping and locking all over the place and he did a litte magic in the middle to. I would recamend this to the class it fun and you can learn alot just from looking at danceing, well you learn alot of moves.
