This quote means that if you want evil to win or take you over, you can just do nothing. But if you do something to stop that, then you’re taking action to prevent everything from going wrong.
This quote relates to me because when I really don’t care about something, I don’t do anything to prevent it. I let the problem or evil win but when I really care about something, I do something to prevent something. So instead of the evil or problem winning and taking over, I fight the evil or problem.

I think that this quote means that the only thing that can make evil is the things that men don’t do. By this I mean that evil can be prevented if men really care about something, then they could do something to fix that issue. When people don’t try to fix things and lay around being lazy, then the issues that need to be fixed will get worse and will spread evil to other people around them. This quote also means that around the world, there are many issues that we need to fix and there are also many lazy people that don’t care about anything. Just because they aren’t doing anything and that everybody isn’t doing anything and not noticing the outcomes of these problems, the issue will then get a whole lot worse until it’s too late.

This quote means that you can make a difference. If you choose to do nothing, you will lose. If you cho0se to act, you will always win. You should always do something. It will make the world better. Also, if people see that you are doing good, they might decide to help, too.
This quote relates to me because I can do something to make someone’s life better, but I normally don’t do anything. When I learned what other people are doing to help, I thought about all the things I can do to help the world. I can recycle, donate to good causes, and so much more. I want to start doing more things to help the world.

I think that the quote means that if we don’t do something and just sit around, we will fail and lose but if we do something about it, then we will succeed. It means we need to act instead of just talking, like how the Hawaiians (us) are doing now. We are always talking about how we are going to do great things but we never do anything and just keep talking and talking.
I can relate to this in many ways. My class and I always talk and say that we should stop slavery or child labor. We say that we can write in the paper or write to the U.N. but we never do them (especially me). We are so passionate about a subject that we write such good blogs. It’s not always about writing good blogs, we need to actually start doing something. We REALLY do!

To me, this quote means that most empires fell because they didn’t do anything. For example, the Romans were invaded by the barbarians when the people in Rome did nothing except go to the Coliseum and watched gladiators kill each other, animals kill gladiators, and naval Battles. What he means is by,” The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing” is that the only way that an empire falls is when they get too powerful and get lazy. The US is the world power and all we do is stay home and watch professional football. (Many Americans are overweight).

To me, this quote means you won’t get anywhere or do anything if you just follow someone. I mean you can’t stop child labor or slavery by just saying things like, “yeah, this is bad” and “why is it happening,” but you need to let your voice touch people and let them know that it’s wrong. We have to do something before it gets any worse than it is now. If people hear your voice, then that might change something, maybe not end slavery but help the people to understand that there is still slavery in the world today and that it’s wrong. If we do what we believe is right, then we can make a diffrence in not only your life but in another person’s life as well.

I think that the quote means that we good people shouldn’t just sit around and watch our lives go past us. If we do that, then we won’t accomplish anything in our lives. If we sit around and do nothing, then we will get lazy. That is why there are so many Hawaiians that are overweight, on drugs, in jail, and are homeless. I think that they are like this because they don’t want to accomplish or do anything good in their lives. Just like T.K said, most of the people in America just want to watch their football games or be entertained by something. This is the way that all of the great empires fell. If America doesn’t stop being so lazy and only care about their football games, our empire might fall just like the Romans and the Greeks.
I can relate to this in many ways. One connection is that our class can write good blogs. A majority of the people that blog usually blog because they want to get a good grade. I admit, I am part of those people. My class can talk a good story but can they follow through and do something about it? We probably can but most of us are too lazy to care about the genocide in Africa or the people that are in child labor and slavery. I admit again that I am still part of that group. Maybe if we weren’t so lazy, not as many people would have died in Rwanda and not many people will die in Darfur, Sudan

I think that this quote means that if you do nothing, you will lose. If you act on what you are trying to do, you will always win. We should not just say words to people to help change their ways. We should act on what we are saying and be leaders that inspire others to do what you are doing. Our generations just talk, talk, and talk. Instead we should start the walk, walk, and walk. Then we can inspire other Hawaiians to lead by example and lead us to freedom!!
I can relate to this issue in many different ways. In the subject modern slavery, we talked about what we could have done but we still haven’t done anything to help stop it. We could do things like writing to important people like the president and some leaders in the UN. We can make a difference if we do something about it.

To me this quote means that if some bad people do something, the only way it will go on is if a few good people not say anything or go against it. I also think it means that if good people do nothing, everything will be in chaos. This quote relates to my life because in my life if a few good people didn’t tell me that what I was doing was wrong, I would have ended up as a bad kid. What they did was separate me from my wrongdoings.
When Adolf Hitler convinced Germany that Jews were bad and people believed him, a few good men could have stopped him by standing up to him and standing up for what they believed in. People like Adolf Hitler didn’t start our as a bad person. He made bad decisions and he didn’t have people to help him stay on track and help him when he made bad choices.

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” –Edmund Burke
This quote means that you can win the war if the other people just sit around and do nothing. If they are lazy and only worry about watching TV or playing video games, it is a perfect time for you to launch your attack. Yet, while the war is raging, those people still will sit around doing nothing and just watch the damage being done without lifting a finger to save the world.
It also means that there is still time to stop it, but if you choose the wrong path and just watch, your world will turn into shambles. You can make a difference in the world even though you are only one person. It means that the people asked to help aren’t helping others, they are just watching the damage being done.
To make a difference, you can’t just sit around WATCHING, you have to DO IT. You can’t just know and say, “This is bad, we really have to do something,” when you don’t do anything at all. If you want to make a difference, you have to get up and do SOMETHING.

I think that it means if you don’t do anything and you just sit around, then evil will win and take over.
It relates to me because if I don’t care about things which happens a lot, I don’t do anything and I just sit around. Our class always talks about getting rid slavery but we don’t do anything about it. We can talk the talk but we don’t walk the walk. Maybe that’s why there is still slavery, because everybody talks about it but never does anything to help with that problem. If everybody does one little thing, we could make a big difference in the world so it would be a better place to live.

I think that this quote means that our problems and will just keep going. They will only stop if a good man stops it. We need to be those good men that stop evil. We cannot just let it go. Although those bad things have a huge impact on things, we don’t want to do anything because we are too lazy. It also means that we need to stop talking about what we are going to do, when we should already be doing something. The Hawaiians are always talking about how they lived a sustainable life, they acted then but how come they aren’t trying to change anything now? Don’t they want it to be like before so they can live a sustainable life? They should be the most worried about all of this because before the Westerners came, we took care of the land and we can still take care of it now.
I can relate to this in some ways. Just like Casey said, the connection that I made is my class. When we write our blogs, we feel so passionate about one subject and we have so much to say. What we say in the blog stays in the blog and on the Internet. We do not act for all that we say. We just do it on the blog so that we can finish our homework and go and play. We don’t mean what we say, we just say it.

I think that this quote means that if we don’t want evil to prevail or succeed, then good men like us should do nothing ,and if you want good to prevail, then we should do something about it so good will succeed.
I can relate to this issue because sometimes I do not obey my parents and God says that all children should obey their parents. That is a sin and I am not following one of the ten commandments. By not listening to my parents, I am letting evil prevail and rule me over. That is how I can relate to this topic.

I agree with Traci that the quote means if you want evil to prevail, just do nothing. If you want good to prevail, then do something about it. If you don’t do anything, evil could prevail.
I can relate this to our blogs, also. We write good blogs but sometimes we don’t mean it. Some people do it for the grade. Some people do it for the money in our economics system. If you really care about what you are writting about, then you also got to do something in life. We write great blogs, we just don’t do anything. If you really care about the topic, you should do something, not just keep bloging it.

I think this quote means that if you do nothing to stop something that you do not agree with, it will always happen. But we may not always be able to stop something because if you look at Queen Lili’uokalani’s case it was almost imposible to stop the overthrow.
March 4th, 2008 at 5:59 pm
This quote means that if you want your enemies to prevail and defeat you, then all you need to do is not do anything about it. If your enemy is trying to become more stronger than you for example, all they need to do is work on it and for you to stop training.

I think that Edmund Burke is trying to say that it only takes good people to do nothing for things to go back. This is like being a couch potato. We should not be like this because deep down we are all very good people. We just don’t always act like it. This is totally okay because we are humans and we will make mistakes.
It relates to me because I can always do something good to help people in need. But instead, what do I do, I just ignore it. I think that if the matter is not appealing so I ignore it. I choose when I want to take action and when I do not want to take action. I think that the whole nation is like this. The Rwanda Genocide was something the U.S. did not want to be a part of, so we did not take action.

I think that “the only thing necessary for triumph for evil is for good men to do nothing” to me means a way for the bad side to win. For example, there is a drought and everyone around you are slowly dying because they dont have any water. YOU have a big storage filled with fresh drinking water but you don’t tell anyone, that is a triumph for evil. Because you didn’t tell anyone, it is just like you not even having a storage of water.
