If…

If you could have any singer alive sing at your next party or school dance, who would you pick?
If you found out that one teacher in your school was secretly a rock musician, who would you guess it was?
If you were to name one of the things you and your parents would never agree on, what would it be?
I don’t know about you, but I thought Back-To-School-Day was pretty special. I got to meet the parents of my current 6th graders and reacquaint myself with the parents whose children have moved on to 7th and 8th grade. Parents seem to be dead-tired by the end of the day but what a great reality check for them. On the same note, students have never been so focussed and attentive to instructions and eager to impress. What a great opportunity to create a learning community, one where parents, teachers and students begin to work together. In my eyes, it’s a win-win situation for everyone involved.
What do you think?
If you were a fighter pilot, what would your call sign be?
If you could pick one famous person to be your neighbor, who would you have next door to you?
Okay, am I the only person sad to see the Olympics conclude? I watched with regret as the final fireworks exploded and the familiar silhouette of the bird’s nest faded into black. My late nights watching the games are now empty…I guess I could grade papers but what’s so Olympic about that? The games were probably the most exciting I’ve ever witnessed, full of drama and unparalleled talent. I’m usually not one to be impressed by the pomp and circumstance of sport but these games were different. Instead, I was elevated to a higher plain, one where allegiance to a country did not matter as much as the realization that these athletes were the best in the world and dedicated their lives to the pursuit of being world class representatives for their sport. Bearing witness to world records being made, history being written was thrilling not to mention mind-blowing. The spirit of the Olympics prevailed, it brought the world together in celebration of humanity. On an even playing field we put aside our differences so that we can play and have fun. In the words of Grant (or was it Reece?), “play nice and you will make friends.” The Olympics reminded us that it’s as simple as that.
What did the Olympics mean to you? What was your favorite moment?
Winners or Losers? You decide…
One word, two words, long word, misspelled words. If said with good intentions it/they/ are welcomed here. What say you today?
Do you have any?
The opening ceremonies are on Friday, August 8th. Let’s watch and blog our observations. Let’s see who can find the most obscure country…you know, like Jamaica in the winter Olympics?
Beijing is putting on a great show!
